Basia Sokołowska studiowała Historię Sztuki w Warszawie i na University of Sydney. W pierwszych miesiącach stanu wojennego, dotarła przez Mongolię i Chiny do Australii. Po ukończeniu studiów na Univiersity of Sydney pracowała w Art Gallery of New South Wales w Sydney jednocześnie zajmując się fotografią. Zaczęła wystawiać na początku lat 90-tych. Główne cykle fotograficzne jej autorstwa to Carmen Infinitum (1990-91), Interior/Mieszkanie (1993), Poza powierzchnię (1994), Cienie nieśmiertelności (1995), Ars Moriendi (1998), Chrysalis (2004), Elsewhere/Gdzie indziej (2000-2005) oraz Tkanki/Adaptation (2005), prezentowane na ponad trzydziestu wystawach indywidualnych i grupowych w Australii i Europie i Japonii. Od 2010 r. pracuje nad długoterminowym projektem pt. Hołd. Jej prace znajdują się w zbiorach Bibliotheque Nationale w Paryżu, Narodowym Instytucie Fryderyka Chopina w Warszawie, Muzeum Sztuki w Łodzi, w kolekcjach prywatnych w Europie i Australii. Obecnie mieszka i pracuje w Warszawie.
Basia Sokolowska studied History of Art at the Warsaw University and at the University of Sydney. After graduation she joined professional staff at the Art Gallery of New South Wales where she worked for seven years. She began making colour photographs since the early 1990‘s. Photographs from her first series titled Carmen Infinitum were included in two consecutive editions of the prestigious Blake Prize for Religious Art Exhibition in Blaxland Gallery in Sydney. In her work she has been exploring the genre of still life combining elements of collage, sculpture and photography. Her main projects include Carmen Infinitum (1990-91), Interior/Mieszkanie (1993), Beyond Surface (1994), Shadows of Immortality (1995), Ars Moriendi (1998), Chrysalis (2004), Elsewhere/Gdzie indziej (2000-2005) oraz Tkanki/Adaptation (2005).Since 2010 she has been working on a long term project Tribute. She has exhibited extensively in Australia, Europe and Japan. Her work can be found in both private and public collections such as: Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris, National Frederic Chopin Institute, Muzeum Sztuki w Łodzi, Centre of Contemporary Art in Warsaw.
